Hats + Ponies

Third times a charm. Ponies turn into horses. Score three goals, the list goes on

My name is Rashad and I’m a producer. I run a studio called Dahsar along with it’s podcast Wear Many Hats.

Hattrick Pony is my third project that I thought would be fitting for the list of creative endeavors I work on. It’s my 33 year around the sun. A year I won’t forget. God year, etc.

How I came up with the name Hattrick Pony was when I was poking around the idiom, one-trick pony and the idiom, hat trick.

With one-trick pony, in my early twenties I was obsessed by my ex’s friends Brian Ware & Bianca Barattini who had a architectural creative studio called One-Trick Pony. It was one of the first creative studios I ever heard of in NYC that was underground, sleek, and monochromatic. Everything that you ever wanted in the 2010s era along with today. The name stuck with me. One trick ponies always have cards up their sleeves.

With hat trick, I was also an athlete growing up in grade school but I always wanted to write. I played soccer as a child, swam on the swim team, ran in run clubs as a teenager, and in high school played tennis. All while wreaking havoc and anarchy by being a skateboarder. I also loved watching football with my dad can you believe? That being said, I wanted to write about sports. The name stuck with me. I always knew hat trick as a sports term of scoring 3 goals.

I combined the two and Hattrick Pony was born.

I work in advertising but I always thought I would be in branding because of how much I care about brands rolling out their identities. I love how brands come up with their name, the history, how they trademark, and keep their IP close to their chest. I’m always down for a good story and the drive to keep your brand going.

When I was doing the Wear Many World Tour, a tour where I would travel around the world and meet people, a friend told me I should write a book. He was leaning on the side of how I was able to do the tour in terms of time and money, not so much for the enjoyment of it. He wanted to know what my secret was. Plot twist, there is no secret. Everything you need to know is out there and the information is ready for you to view.

Instead of writing a book, I’ll be writing a newsletter for now.
